Nyoman is a premier Indonesian kite maker. He began making kites in 1998, and his very first order was placed by SERRV’s partner Mitra Bali. At his workshop on the island of Bali, they make about 60 large kites a month. Nyoman tests the kites himself to ensure they fly correctly.
The kites are built by wrapping nylon over lightweight bamboo frames. Nyoman carves the heads and bodies from recycled foam with a knife. Handpainted details are added to the nylon.
Nyoman says fair trade is important to him. As a fair trade organization, Mitra Bali’s work with artisans is based on principles of benefit, equity and respect. Nyoman likes working with Mitra Bali because he is paid well and they help promote his kites.
Nyoman’s kites are available online and in our catalog.
